Murder Victim Remembered Fondly by Community Members

Monday night and Tuesday morning, people have called us wanting to share what they remember about the man they say was a talented musician and a great civic leader.

Folks were quick to talk about Fred Parker's life, from his brilliance in the court of law, to his civic and public service, to his zest for life.

In some circles, Fred Parker was known for his talent on the piano, often times playing upside down for laughs. He also enjoyed a game of golf, and would meet Tuesday's with fellow Kiwanis Club members for a round at the Killearn Golf and Country Club.

Charles Nuzum, member of Killearn Kiwanis Club, says, "One of the members sent me an Email, and I could scarcely believe it, but that's life, and it's true.”

Don Smith also remembers Parker. "Fred was a fine fellow, and he was an avid golfer, and absolutely, he'd be hitting some balls with us."

News of Parker's death was the talk of the course. A park employee says Parker's last golf game was this past Sunday, and adds he'll be missed.

Joe Clemons says, "I knew Fred primarily here at the church. He went to Faith Presbyterian Church, he and his wife, and as far as I know, he was a faithful attendee for church services."

Ralph Mancuso says, "He had a great sense of humor, that cigar in hand, a rye and dry sense of humor.

Peter Richardson is a cart assistant at the country club. He says Parker's outgoing personality is what made him so popular.

He says, "He was like one of the family here at Killearn. He used to tell me a lot of stories. I just can't get over it."

Parker was active both in his community and in public service, serving as a former president of The Lemoyne Art Foundation and a former member of The Board of Regents.

There is a memorial service set for Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, followed with a private burial service.
