You work hard for your money but if you spend wisely, you just might be happier at work.

New research finds that saving your money leads to more enjoyment in earning it.

Business professor Wayne Hochwarter worked on this study with his research associate, FSU Quarterback Christian Ponder.

The two analyzed 1500 full time workers over the past year and studied their spending and saving habits.

The study found that compared to workers who save their money, employees who spend too much have difficulty concentrating at work and experience less joy in their jobs.

Spenders are also more irritable in the office and have difficulty balancing work and family.

Savvy Spender and Saver Lisa McClure says, "You can really focus on like, getting a good product and giving everything that you want to your job because you're not worried about, 'is this financially beneficial?' 'am I doing this just to get a paycheck?' I think it definitely allows you to just put more enjoyment into your work and to really love what you're doing."

The findings also show that companies can benefit by teaching financial management skills to their workers.

But researchers found this can be easier said than done because many are worried about being ostracized by their friends and peers if they don't have the nicest gadgets or toys.

Fortune Magazine has a couple of pointers for stashing the cash. If you're using a credit card, choose cash rewards instead of flyer miles. You could get hundreds of dollars back each year. Check your credit score twice a year, and try out an Internet bank. Fortune says interest rates tend to be higher if you save your money online.
