Murder Suspect in Custody

Updated: Fri 12:11 AM, Mar 12, 2004

The prime suspect in connection with Monday's stabbing of 66-year-old Fred Parker has been caught.

Around 6 p.m. Tuesday evening, officials thought the man may have skipped town, but it turns out he was staying at a Motel 6 just up the street from police headquarters.

The suspect is 47-year-old David Jeffrey Myer, and police believe he may be connected to another murder in West Palm Beach.

Officials say it was an off duty officer who reeled in Myer. Just as TPD's public information officer, Stewart Clendinen, was issuing an all out alert for David Jeffrey Myer, an on duty officer was searching the parking lot of Motel 6 on North Monroe where she spotted a 1984 Ford pick-up.

“In this parking lot is located the vehicle, at the same time, she also observed a suspect matching the description of Myer walking on the third floor of the motel,” said Stewart Clendinen.

Within minutes members of law enforcement blocked off the area, and there is footage of Myer being carted off, something motel occupants say they weren't expecting to see.

Clendinen says Myer did not resist when taken into custody. After being arrested, he was taken to TPD headquarters for questioning. After that, he will be taken to the Leon County Jail.

Clendinen says the murder weapon has not been found. Thursday evening police officials weren’t able to search his room because they were waiting on a search warrant.
