The county says it’s trying to address those issues.
Tuesday night the commission voted to close the landfill on Sundays in hopes to cut back on the amount of trash dropped off, and left over the weekend, since the transfer station is closed.
Also, the commission is moving forward on a consultant recommendation to turn portions of the landfill into a public use park.
"We have a good buffer and landscaping plan. We have the permits under way for the flares to help with the methane smell,” says Commissioner Cliff Thaell, Leon County Commission.
The county says these plans will start as soon as possible. The landfill will start closing it's doors on Sunday the first weekend in April.
