Florida Adoptions on the Rise

A DCF spokesman says the No Place Like Home adoption initiative, which started in November of last year, has increased adoptions by 60-percent in its first four months.

The program focuses on finding homes for "hard to place" children, through the use of special teams and parent recruitment.

"Foster Homes aren't permanent. Foster homes are very important, and we, need more Floridians to open up their homes and become foster parents. Really, the goal is permanency, and that's to find your forever family and a place to call home,” explains Bill Spann, from the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Spann says aside from the program's success, there are still between 1,900 and 2,100 children currently in state care, and who all have special needs.
