Deputy Beaten

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says it happened at Carolina Square Apartments. LCSO says Deputy John Daley, a reserve officer, was visiting a fellow officer at the complex when the deputies asked a group of black females to leave the premises if they didn't live there.

Investigators believe that is when a struggle broke out. Bob Swearinger, from the Leon County Sheriff's Office, said, "Again when deputies asked them to leave is when one of the black females called out to the crowd five dollars to whoever beat up the white boys. At that time when a crowd of males subjects rushed across the street into the complex and battered Deputy Daley."

Deputy Swearinger says the crowd grew to more than 50 people a 15-year-old boy was arrested and charred with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer without violence, because he ran from police trying to catch him.

Deputies believe at least three people may have helped beat Deputy Daley. They're currently looking for more suspects. The Leon County Sheriff's Office is looking at whether this can be considered a hate crime.
