International Student Fairs

Students from more than 60 countries stood tall and proud as Tallahassee Community College held its Annual Festival and Parade of Nations.

WCTV’s own Art Myers was in attendance Saturday as students witnessed different customs and traditions as well as traditional song and dance. This year's featured country was Turkey. International Student Organization members say it feels good to be recognized.

Betty Jensen with TCC’s Parade of Nations said, “We have dancers from Atlanta, from Gainesville, from different parts so that we can portray the dance, the foods and the traditions and in the back we have several booths.”

This was the 11th Annual Festival and Parade of Nations sponsored by TCC‘s International Student Organization. Turkey wasn't the only country getting some exposure. Japanese culture came alive as Florida State's Japanese Student Association hosted a festival of sorts.

Members of the Asian Student Union celebrated Asian History Month at Florida State University's Student Union Saturday. The event gave folks a chance to get up close and personal to some of the country's well-known arts such as Origami, and not to mention some Asian delicacies.

Anna Viel, President of the Japanese Student Association, said, “People in Japan like to have fun to and this is our way of having fun with traditional music and activities and just getting together with people in your community and celebrating a good year."

Aside from food and art, an Asian group provided the musical entertainment for the event. Traditional Tyco drummers were also on hand performing an ensemble.
