State and local agencies were working through the night to get the blaze under control.
The Franklin County Correctional Facility and several homes in the area were evacuated. Officials say many of those residents are now back in their homes.
Friday night authorities dropped water from helicopters to contain the fire; however, as of 2 a.m. this morning authorities said the fire was only 35 percent controlled.
The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time. No injuries were reported.
If you are traveling in the area, Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that due to the wildfire motorist will need to take alternate routes around the fire.
Highway 98 will be closed between Gulf/Franklin County Line and the Apalachicola Bridge until further notice. Instead FHP is urging motorist to use Northbound SR-71 to Blountstown from Port St. Joe, and Northbound SR-65 to Hosford from Carrabelle and Eastpoint. Motorist can then take SR-20 to either SR-71 or SR-65.
