UPDATED 11/05 3:03 p.m.

The Dougherty County District Attorney says they dropped the simple battery charge against Cairo High School band director Johnny Folsom Junior on Wednesday. 11/04

Officials say there was no intent to commit a crime.

Grady County residents we spoke with tell us they're glad to see the charges dropped and are ready to move on from the incident.

"We're just glad to hear that obviously we've all learned a lot from this and just very glad to hear these charges were dropped. He's a good man, a great band director, he's probably the best I've ever seen," Cairo High School Principal David McCurry said.

"I've known Johnny Folsom for several years since he came to Cairo and I have to say Johnny is probably one of the most, professional, mild-mannered people that I know so this entire thing was just really laughable," band parent Jeff Lovett said.

Charges have been dropped against the Cairo High School band director. Johnny Folsom Junior was arrested in September, charged with simple battery against a police officer.

The incident occurred while the Syrupmakers were playing a game in Albany. Dougherty County police say Folsom grabbed a police officer which led to the arrest. Grady County Schools Superintendent Tommy Pharis confirmed the dropped charges saying quote,
"We're just pleased that it worked out for Mr. Folsom and it worked out for the Grady County School System."

To the three MEN interviewed, Mr. Folsom probably has been "mild-mannered" with you. He is not this way with everyone. I hope everyone has "learned from this", too. Things don't always go our way. Some people will support anything the band director does, even if it is wrong.

Tommy Pharis, you're glad that it worked out for Mr. Folsom & the Grady County Board? How touching, since you made the comment after it happened that you nor the Grady County Board would get involved!! You left Mr. Folsom out to dry. Since when does a "Board" not get involved when an incident occurs at a SCHOOL FUNCTION? The fact that it wasn't at Thomas Stadium should not matter. OUR Band, players & fans have always been treated badly when we go there & when this happened you should have stepped up to the plate. You are a disgrace and a poor example to the students of our County Schools by your lack of attention in this matter!

Congratulations Mr. Folsom. I am glad that Dougherty County DA's office exhibited some common sense. However, I hope that this incident will improve the attitudes that are projected to the visitors who go to Hugh Mills Stadium. We can only pray.
