Taking a bite out of a fall tradition, the North Florida Fair took over the fairgrounds and families stepped up. One of the biggest draws...
"The food!" says Stephen Miner, a Tallahassee resident who attended the fair for the first time. "Come out and check out the food."
From corn dogs to crispy fries. And what's a fair without funnel cake? Everyone's got their favorites.
"The chicken, the funnel cakes, the cotton candy, the candy apples," says Kaija Anderson, a 10-year-old attending the fair with her family.
"I usually just come out for the food, fellowship and friends," says Kim Jones, who brought her children to the fairgrounds.
With aisles of game booths set up, anyone can be a winner. And this year, there's a big treat for thrill seekers.
"We've added rides this year," says Mark Harvey, the North Florida Fair manager. "I think most people are more into the rides. That's why you come to the fair, to ride the rides. So we're trying to add more rides and give people what they want."
"Oh, there's more rides!?" exclaims 17-year-old Jessica McKenzie. "Oh yeah! I love it!
It's enough to make fairgoers' heads spin.
"I like all the rides and how they make you dizzy," says Jeffrey Allen, an 11-year-old who came from Crawfordville with his family.
"It tickles your stomach," says McKenzie. "When you go so high, it's fun with everyone yelling and everyone having fun."
This season, when "swine" seems to have taken on a whole new meaning, it's nice to know you can always head to the fair to pig out.
One new exhibit you'll see this year: a sustainable living expo. The goal is to educate people on how to be more eco-friendly.
The North Florida Fair runs through November 15th.
