LCSO Investigating Early Morning Traffic Crash Fatality:

Early Friday morning at approximately 1:05AM, Leon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 1400 block of Old St. Augustine Road in reference to a traffic crash.

Upon arrival Deputies discovered a 1999 Honda CRV which had struck a tree on the south side of the roadway.

The driver, and only occupant, Tallahassee resident 36-year-old Anthony V. Ruiz was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Leon County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Homicide Investigators responded to the scene and a preliminary investigation has revealed that the vehicle was traveling east bound on Old St. Augustine Road when it left the roadway and a struck tree.

No other vehicles were involved.

Traffic Crash Investigators have determined that the driver was not wearing a seat belt and that excessive speed may have been a factor in this traffic crash fatality.

An early morning crash leaves one person dead.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says a driver died while traveling East on Lafayette St. in Tallahassee around 1:00 a.m. Friday morning.

Officials say only one car was involved in the accident.

The identity of the driver is unknown at this time.
