A jury has convicted a 33-year-old ex-con of the attempted murder of Valdosta State grad and former Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Richard Collier.

For nearly two weeks the jury has heard evidence against Tyrone Hartsfield.

At 6:30 p.m Thursday, the jury found Tyrone Hartsfield guilty of attempted first degree murder.

Richard Collier was in the courtroom for most of the hearings sitting about 10 feet away from his alleged shooter.

The six-person jury deliberated two hours and 45 minutes before returning its verdict Thursday against Hartsfield at the end of a nine-day trial.

Collier watched much of the closing arguments while seated in his wheelchair in the courtroom gallery.

Hartsfield faces up to life in prison.

Collier was shot six times as he waited in his car outside a Jacksonville apartment house in 2008.

Collier was paralyzed and his left leg was amputated.

People who are convicted of attempted murder should die just as if they had committed murder, because he still intended on killing him.
