Details:

The Idle Free Tallahassee-Leon Campaign is a part of the City’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint by eliminating or reducing emissions from the unnecessary idling of motor vehicles and equipment. According to the City’s inventory of greenhouse gases, close to 40 percent of the area’s carbon emissions and greenhouse gases can be attributed to the transportation sector.

Designed to impact the community at large, the Idle Free Campaign is being implemented through a collaborative partnership with other governmental agencies, local universities/colleges and area business partners.

The Campaign intends to encourage organizations, institutions, and businesses to adopt policies and procedures dealing with unnecessary idling, establish no idling zones, and to participate in educational programs with the intent of eliminating or reducing unnecessary idling.

Individuals will also be encouraged to make a pledge to reduce or eliminate unnecessary idling.

That's a great idea. Once the city's 'carbon footprint' has been reduced, I can finally burn that pile of tires I'm storing in my backyard.

What is Leon County's plan for their fleet of ambulances that idle 24/7 on the street corners?

if you don't want us to idle then do something about traffic and traffic management. there are lights that cycle even when there are not cars on side streets waiting.
