The bill would extend insurance to tens of millions of Americans.
It would cost more than a trillion dollars over ten years. Thirty-nine Democrats voted "NO."

The Republicans were against the measure. Their main argument don't tinker with the health care industry which makes up a fifth of America's economy when unemployment just hit 10.2 percent.

Something definitely needs to be done about health insurance coverage! My family lost their's (it was inexpensive and good coverage) when I was laid off from my job. My husband can get it at his job, but for family coverage, the cheapest option is over $100/week. It has a $2000 deductible and the only things not having to meet the deductible is a $45/copay for a FAMILY doctor (specialists have to apply to deductible), and a $10/GENERIC drug (it doesn't cover name brands at all). After the deductible, it only pays 50%. It pays better for urgent care centers and independent labs and diagnostics, which we don't even have in Perry. This is entirely too much to have to pay for such little coverage.

Business can no longer pay for everyone's healthcare costs. That's why they can't hire people and create more jobs and get the economy going. It costs too much. A true universal public plan is what we need but we will all need to pay into it and get rid of private insurance. The unfunded Medicare and Medicaid benefits alone will take up almost 1/2 off the entire federal budget in another 30 years! If we don't fix this now we won't be able to later.
