Wakulla County residents are lining up to get their H1N1 vaccine. Mary Butera, who lives in Sopchoppy, says this mobile unit is a wonderful thing for those who have a hard time traveling. "I don't do much driving anymore if I can help it, it's much easier to come here," said Butera.
Monday morning more than 50 people came out to the Sopchoppy location to take advantage of the convenient opportunity to get the shot or the mist.
"We think it's very important because of our age and health. And if we get this shot maybe it will help us down the road," said Leon Nettles, who lives in Sopchoppy.
The mobile unit will be be open at three sites on Thursday and Friday at varying times. Folks can either travel to Crawfordville, St. Marks, Shell Point, or Wakulla Station to get vaccinated.
"We have a target audience that we're really pushing for those to get the shots. We have pregnant women, you have children aged 6 months to 4 years, health-care workers, daycare workers, EMS with direct contact, those are our target audience. However, if someone else should come to the clinic as long as we have vaccine available we will be able to vaccinate them as well," said Kim Tucker, with the Wakulla County Health Department.
Health department officials will be evaluating the turnout for the mobile unit this week to decide whether they'll be back on the road next week.

Monday, November 9th was the first day the H1N1 Mobile Unit hit the streets. For the next week, residents can get the shot or mist for free.
The mobile unit will be at three sites Thursday and Friday in either St. Marks, Shell Point, Wakulla Station, or Crawfordville. Health officials say the mobile unit will NOT be running Tuesday, November 10th, because of the inclement weather that is expected.
"It's so far to Crawfordville and Tallahassee and this is truly a blessing for all the people in Sopchoppy that can't get anyplace else," said Glenda Phelps, who has lived in Sopchoppy all her life.
Officials say as long as they have enough of the vaccine to go around no one will be turned away. But the target audience is children age 6 months to 4 years, pregnant women, daycare providers for children under 6 months of age. And health-care and emergency medical services with direct patient contact.
