Local Businessman is Named Philanthropist of the Year

A local businessman was honored Thursday as part of National Philanthropy Day.

Rick Kearney was named the 2009 Philanthropist of the Year by the Big Bend chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Organizers say his donation of 200 thousand dollars towards the creation of Cascade Park downtown made him an easy choice for the award as someone who has done outstanding work this year in the community.

"We get a little stressed about the economy, about our personal lives, our finances, and to look out beyond our own lives to realize we actually have it pretty good and that if we can do a little bit...it goes a long way," says Rick Kearney, CEO of Mainline Information Systems.

Kearney has lived in the Tallahassee area for more than 25 years and was featured on WCTV as Someone You Should Know on September 23rd.
