A text message helped police nab a man who they say repeatedly solicited a 13-year-old girl as she walked home from school.
It happened on Saxon Street.
A girl says for the past few weeks, a man in a red Honda kept pulling up next to her as she walked home from school. Police say he was making sexually suggestive comments and repeatedly asked her to get in the car.
Wednesday, the girl sent her mother a text message with the man's license plate number and police tracked him down soon afterward.
Twenty-four-year-old Michael Starks is charged with lewd and lascivious conduct. A judge set bond at $5,000, but at last word, Starks was still in jail.
"Whatever he got arrested for and whatever he gets is what he deserves because we are all family," said Glenn Williams, a parent who lives nearby. "I'm a father and I have to look at it like, ‘What if my little girl was out there? What would I do?’ It would really make me mad, too," he said.
