Volunteers decided to take matters in their own hands today to help a cemetery in Greenville, Fl that's been neglected and treated like a dump.

Before the volunteers decided to clean things up, there was so much trash and overgrown plants that you couldn't even see some of the headstones.

But today more than twenty volunteers showed up to Pallbearer's graveyard to pick up the garbage, cut back some of the tall weeds, and put fresh flowers on the headstones.

Some say they did it because they know how it feels to want a loved laid to rest with dignity.

The county commission donated 500 dollars to go toward the cost of getting all the trash moved.

Dorothy Wilson, the president of the Pallbearer's lodge, was so happy when I gave her the news.

I have been part of many volunteer plantings, but never a cemetary clean up. I am honored to have been part of this effort and hope that we can continue to work on making Pallbearer's a place that people can visit their loved ones for years to come. Thanks to John for organizing such a huge event, to Candace for covering the story, and many, many cheers to everyone that participated. I was fortunate to have met some wonderful people; and had a great time all the while. It's easy to make a buck. It's a lot tougher to make a difference. ~Tom Brokaw

Thank you Candace and WCTV for the concern and coverage of this event. I was a small part of the volunteer crew for this clean up. I hope your coverage will spur others to step up and help wherever they can when these types of needs are discovered. It was just fortuitous for us to be here at this time and participate. For anyone else reading this, it doesn't take that much of your time and effort to come to the aid of others. There's usually something you can do. As others have said, waiting for government to do things can take forever, or never, so do as your heart dictates. Blessings!
