Folks In Gadsden Want Their Hospital Back
Folks in Gadsden County want their community hospital to be reopened because they say, that's what they were promised by county commissioners when the citizens voted on the half-cent sales tax.

The chants of community members echo across the courthouse square. It's been years since the community hospital was open, but two years ago citizens voted on a half-cent sales tax, part of which would bring the hospital back to life. They say too many people are dying on the ambulance ride to Tallahassee.
"I would hate for someone else to have to lose their father the way I lost my father due to there not being a hospital. How many fathers do we have to lose, or mothers do we have to lose because we don't have a hospital," said Lashay Lattimore. Her father was killed in a hit and run accident.
The county commission has been working on the hospital for more than a year and the June 2010 deadline for reopening is fast approaching.
"Rural communities always have to focus on rural fragmented services, but if we work together and collaborate, we can make this happen," said Angela Burgess, a Grassroots Community Activist.
But folks living in this community are losing faith that commissioners will get the job done.
"We're here to say to the commissioners, follow through on the vote of the county, of Gadsden County," said Jeanette Wynn, a Gadsden County resident.
Commissioners should know by early December if the Hospital Cooperation of America is going to help with opening the community hospital in Gadsden.

Mrs. T. the "new board" would not have to “clean up a few messes or consider future funding to KEEP the hospital open” If they would just turn that facility over to HCA. Don’t you see what I am trying to tell you. HCA owns hundred of self sufficient, financially profitable hospital nationwide. They have a proven track record and with all do respect your “new board” does not. The commissioners did a great job with building the facility, but you guys have to let the reins go. HCA is not going to partner with your “new board.” They are not stupid. Keep being hard headed and this community is going to end up with no healthcare, no jobs and empty facility that the tax payers will be stuck paying for. Let HCA have the facility and the community will end up with a well run hospital, that offers quality health care free of “messes” and great jobs with good benefits. You guys will come out as heroes. HCA has a website, you can research what I am telling you.
One more note about HCA(Health Care of America, owners of Capital Regional Hospital) They are a national Corporation. They provide there employees with state of the art training and excellent benefits. They are financially profitable. In these tough economic times, where job security is an issue you want to work for a company that has a proven tract record of maintaining profitability. They do. This community needs healthcare but they also need jobs. They will bring us both, but they will not do this if the Commissioners insist on partnering. They have built the facility, now turn it over to HCA and let them run it. If you don't, this community is going to wind up with no jobs, no healthcare and empty building that the tax payers will be stuck paying for. We need jobs. They have great benefits and good retirement packages. Please do not fowl this up. Let then have that building so we can have jobs and good healthcare.
Give the Hospital to HCA or lease it to them for 1.oo a year. Stop asking then to help you run it. Nobody in their right mind is going to agree to risk their MCR licensing by partner with a political entity. You don't need to be in it. Turn it over to them. They (HCA)are very cable of making that hospital a vital facility for this community and with all do respect, you guys are not so stop taking personal offense to that. There are many things the commissioners do very well, but running a hospital is not one of them. Mrs. T., I did not know anything about the chocolate letter publication, until you started talking about it. Stop focusing on it or sue her for slander. If she is helping distribute it, you have a strong case. But either way, that issue is not the community’s issue, it is yours. Please, I am not trying to be ugly to you, I trying to make you see she is trying to divert your attention. Time is running out on the hospital.
