The Following is a Press Release from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve:
Tallahassee, Florida – The Florida Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense, presented Mayor John Marks, President of the Florida League of Cities the Seven Seals Award in recognition of their support of the Florida Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve mission during The League’s Legislative Conference in Orlando, Thursday, November 19, 2009.
According to Phillip Speake ESGR Florida Chairman, “The Seven Seals Award is the only Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve award that bridges both the employer and ESGR volunteer recognition awards program. It was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals, companies or organizations who provide significant achievement, initiative or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission.”
Florida League of Cities was nominated for being highly supportive of the ESGR mission. In August 2009, The League passed a resolution during their state conference encouraging all cities to join in expressing a heartfelt thanks to the members of our National Guard and Reserve for their extraordinary sacrifices on behalf of our nation by signing an ESGR Statement of Support (SOS).
Through the leadership of the Florida League of Cities and the 410 Cities in Florida, the Florida League of Cities became the first League in the Nation to have 100% of its membership execute a Statement of Support. This is a major accomplishment and will be the catalyst to encourage the rest of the nation to follow The Florida League’s lead.
As the 37 thousand members of the National Guard and Reserve in Florida and Nationally 1.3 million members continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions that require extraordinary actions on the part of everyday citizens, ESGR will continue to be the informational agency for the employers of citizen warriors.
More information about ESGR Employer Outreach Programs and volunteer opportunities is available at Floridaesgr.com, or by calling Doug Corbett, Program Support Specialist of the Florida ESGR Committee, at 904-823-0172.
