Valdosta Homeless Shelter Near Capacity
A local shelter is almost at capacity as our temperatures continue to drop outside.

Lowndes Associated Ministries to People, also known as LAMP, provides services to the homeless and has just a few beds left in its shelter.
With the economic downturn looming this year, LAMP has been above its 68 capacity mark most of the year.
Caseworkers say this happens during colder months.
"A lot of times it's because a lot of individuals are living in unstable houses or unsuitable houses," said Judy Bernadin, a caseworker with LAMP. "Such as there's no heat or electricity in them. And so at this time of year they're seeking shelter."
If you would like more information about transitional housing opportunities, contact LAMP at (229) 245-7175 ext. 262.

GV what was the "tone" in your voice when you asked him? Did you sound condescending? Did you look at them like they weren't quite up to par? Usually on applications you have to fill out a mailing address, a phone number, & you are asked if you have a dependable mode of transportation. So, if these people have none of these, would you still hire them? If they had no recent job references, would you hire them? Oh, I KNOW that there are people out there who do not WANT to work or abuse the governemnt programs. But not all are like that. I just KNOW that thousands or millions of dollars are sent to other countries to feed others' children. But I have NOT seen the ads to help our own. Have you? That was my point. We seem to be all about sending American dollars OUT of the U.S.A., but not so much to keep it here. Thank you for ALL of your efforts to give others jobs.
WCTV Viewer,I hire people and take applications from people all the time, and not once has any of these homeless people who sit on the side of the road with a sign saying thet will work for food has ever applied for a job.I even tried to pay one to rake my yard and he told me no.
This story really boggles my mind. There is no reason why people in our country should be in the situation. I see TV ads showing children from other countries needing money for food & health care & begging for American people to "Sponsor" them. I have NOT seen one ad for those in OUR OWN COUNTRY who are homeless & do not have jobs, food or proper shelter or healthcare. It angers me really. I wish that I was Wealthy, or had the "right" connections, because I would find a way to build a home or center for those that have nothing; some place they could stay all year round & not just @ the holidays. We truly need to search our hearts & find a way to take care of our own.
