At the corner of S. Ashley Street and Martin Luther King Drive in Valdosta, construction on the future MLK Memorial Park is underway.

During November 23-25 granite monuments are being set into place.

The park will feature milestones in King's life and in the civil rights movement.

The project will be completed in time for the annual MLK events in Valdosta in January.

there is no doubt that Dr. King was a great and inspirational leader. It is my hope that this park will inspire other leaders in the community. It seams to me that leadership and a good example is what is missing in the black community. The current people in positions of leadership are not what is needed. Vision, self disipline and character is what set Dr. King apart. He fought for all, not himself or just his race but for the equality of all. It is time to do the right thing because it is right, not for a personal reward; it is time to take care of ourselves, not rely or expect others to do it for us. Our founding fathers fought for and established freedom, it is time to accept that a life of freedom is not easy, it takes work and the rewards are not and shold not be equal. You are an american so you are born with freedom, the rest is what you make out of it with your work and your talents.

The bigger issue, which is one of many long term problems of racism. Even today not many whites live near an MLK street, and there's not any MLK streets in a predominately white subdivision. A majority of all races agree in MLK Jr's philosophies, why not have streets in his hame everywhere, like the bazillons of Lincoln streets? Please join me in challenging the developer of Kenderlou Golf Community in Valdosta to name a street in Kederlou Martin Luther King Drive before they name one Tiger Woods Drive. The biggest lie is that we don't have the freedom to choose. If we have the freedom to make bad choices, then we have the freedom to make good choices. It's sad that the bad choices we're free to make enslave us. The very thing we blame all our problems on. Good choices align with freedom. Start today to stop the blame game. I bet MLK is rolling over in his grave given the current state of affairs. He gave everything, but many that he fought for take everything.
