November 30th marks the end of the 2009 hurricane season... one that didn't see a whole lot of activity.
This season had the fewest named storms and hurricanes since 1997.
An average season has about eleven named storms and six hurricanes.
Whereas this year nine named storms formed in the Atlantic - three of which were hurricanes.
Meteorologists say this is largely thanks to El Nino.
"El Nino certainly chopped off a bunch of developing systems throughout the season and while the numbers were down a little bit, certainly the intensities were down," says Mike McCall, Chief Meteorologist for WCTV.
For the first time in three years, no hurricanes hit the U.S.
Only two systems, Claudette and Ida, brought tropical storm winds and rain ashore.

Another Hurricane season without serious landfalls. Truly a lot to be thankful & prayerful for. However, "quiet" seasons seem to always produce very "productive & destructive" seasons in future. Makes me worry about "the calm before the storm".
