The python round-up in South Florida will start once again in January.

After a four-month test run that ended in October, the Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission announced they would extend the program to a year-round effort starting in 2010.

The wildlife commission says this will ensure that the exotic species does not spread any farther north in Florida.

The program aimed at helping eradicate giant, nonnative Burmese
pythons from South Florida ended with 39 of the invasive
constrictors being killed.

The agency is also now seeking application for permits that will
go into effect on January 1st.

You are supposed to be a qualified snake catcher(jeeeezzz)...and on top of that you have to purchase a $100.00 license from the state. These Yahoos at the FWC really know what it takes to eleminate these snakes....sorry but it `s not like this. Wake up FWC and eleminate all these restrictions.

with 100,000 estimated to be on the loose, what good does 39 doin reducing the population? FWCC needs to have open seasonon these and consider paying a bounty out of everglades license plate funds. And,don't thinkthey will stay in the Everglades - any suitable habitat (and warm crawl space) support these snakes expanding throughout the southeast.
