Circuit Judge William Wright sentenced Wesley Williams to four consecutive life terms followed by three, 30-year terms for aggravated child abuse Friday morning.

In October, a jury convicted Williams for the March 17, 2005 murders of 19-year-old Danielle Baker and her three sons.

Baker was shot in the back of the head. The three boys, Amad,Amarion and Aaron Baker suffocated to death from duct tape.

Williams was the father of two of the boys.

Despite being found guilty, he will not face the death penalty.
Judge Wright points to a lack of physical evidence as the reason he is not sentencing Williams to death.

Wright says the state did prove Williams was present during the murders, and the jury was correct in convicting him.

At today's sentencing, Bakers mother, Doreen Jackson, explained why she did not want him to receive the death penalty.

"We can close the case now as far as I care because if he don't want to tell who helped you with this humongous crime, this terrible thing, then you hold it in and you sit in your bed and you lay in it. But I do want him to live, I want him to realize what he's done," said Jackson.

Williams' attorney, public defender Walter Smith, says he is in the process of appealing the case.

It's been two months since a jury convicted Wesley Williams of four counts of first degree murder and three counts of aggravated child abuse, and he has yet to be sentenced.

Thursday, circuit judge William Wright revealed the reason for the delay.

He issued a written order, ruling that Williams will not receive the death penalty.

In his statement, Judge William Wright said the evidence in the case proves Wesley Williams was present during the quadruple homicides. However, it wasn't strong enough to prove he deserved the death penalty.

Almost 70 witnesses testified during the two week long trial which consisted mostly of circumstantial evidence.

A jury deliberated for only two hours before finding Williams guilty as charged for the deaths of 19-year-old Danielle Baker and her three sons.

State attorney Glenn Hess, who is a former judge, says if the case were his he'd probably make the same decision.

"I know that we did the best we could in trying what we had. Law enforcement did a great job in putting together the available evidence. Larry Basford did a consummate job of trying the case. But you only have so much and with the Edmund/Tison standard for imposition of the death penalty, I think the judge reached the right decision based on the right reasons," said Hess.

Public defender Walter Smith, who was anticipating the death penalty, says Thursday's decision both hurts and helps the case.

"On one hand, we're relieved that Wesley Williams will not receive the death penalty. On the other hand, we will not get a direct appeal to the Florida Supreme Court," said Smith.

Smith will now hand his clients fate over to the appellate court.

"I just have to put faith that the 1st District Court of Appeals will give us the same level of review that I know we would've gotten in the Florida Supreme Court," said Smith.
