Buck Lake Students Donate Clothes to Children Overseas

The belongings of local school children have made a trip overseas to Iraq. Students from Bucklake Elementary gathered up almost 200 pounds of clothing and sent them to an orphanage in the war-torn country.

Over the past month, boxes of clothing have been collected at Bucklake Elementary School. Last week almost 200 pounds of clothes were sent off. Thursday the children got to see pictures of their new friends with their new clothes.

“It’s kind of like having a friendship but not knowing who you're having a friendship with. I’m glad we gave those clothes to them, they deserve it,” says 4th grader Mary Roberts.

Teacher Susan Teel says it's been a great lesson in humanity.

“It really helps them to have compassion for other people,” she says.

The children at the orphanage range from infants to 12 years of age. 160th MP Battalion is carrying on a tradition from the last unit stationed there to adopt the orphanage.
