TPD received a tip that led them to 1306 Francisco Drive in Tallahassee. On Tuesday, December 8th, investigators uncovered an elaborate marijuana collection inside with an estimated street value of about a quarter of a million dollars.

Police arrested the owners of the home, 55 year-old Charles and 59 year-old Anne Wygant.

"I'm very surprised. It's a pretty nice neighborhood overall and yeah, very surprised that something like that would happen," said neighbor, Lora Rowe.

Authorities found more than 80 marijuana plants and about 1.5 pounds of dried marijuana. The couple is being charged with cultivation of cannabis, maintaining a drug house, possession of cannabis with intent to sell, and possession of paraphernalia.

Tallahassee Police Department Press Release:

COUPLE ARRESTED IN DRUG DISTRIBUTION CASE

Tuesday, December 8th, the Tallahassee Police Department’s Special Investigations Section served a narcotics search warrant at 1306 Francisco Drive. Inside the home investigators discovered an elaborate marijuana cultivation operation with over 80 marijuana plants growing inside the home. Additionally, over 1.5 pounds of dried marijuana, ready for distribution was seized. The estimated street value of the marijuana is almost $250,000.

The investigation began as a result of a tip received from a citizen. The Special Investigations Section utilized their investigative resources, ultimately obtaining a search warrant for the residence. The owners of the home, Charles and Anne Wygant, were arrested without incident.

Lt. Joani Chase, Assistant Division Commander, said, “We are not surprised to find an indoor grow in a residential area. What does surprise us is the size, scope and complexity of the operation. One of our biggest concerns is that many times violence follows the illegal drug business. There is always the possibility that an innocent child or adult could be harmed.”

The Tallahassee Police Department is committed to keeping citizens safe. If anyone has information about a crime, please contact the Tallahassee Police Department at (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS (8477). We don’t want your name, just your information. You could be eligible for a cash reward.

ARRESTED:

Charles Wygant, W/M, 10/21/1954. Charges: Cultivation of Cannabis, Possession of Cannabis With Intent to Sell, Maintaining a Drug House, and Possession of Paraphernalia.

Anne Nims-Wygant, W/F, 07/24/1950. Charges: Cultivation of Cannabis, Possession of Cannabis With Intent to Sell, Maintaining a Drug House, and Possession of Paraphernalia.

I agree with the first comment why dont TPD go worry about the gangs on the southside and westside instead of messing with pot smokers its rediculous. People get rapped and killed here every day and all there worried about is pot. I mean really you have 20 grams or more and you have a felony i got charged with intent to sell with like 15 grams and they give me the choice of rehab for 6-9 months or being direct filed. Those people didnt diserve that there far from criminals and like in the past comments they probably did it for themselvse because they didnt have anywhere else to get it tallahasse police is sick and need to go arrest the real crimals that do real crimes like burglary, murder, rape, etc.

$250,000? At $100 per quarter ounce, 1.5 pounds is worth $9600. That means the 80 plants must be worth over $3000 each, almost a half pound. In reality, in a growing chamber, each plant might produce a couple ounces, I'm guessing, zero personal experience. If each plant produced only 2 ounces, a more accurate estimate of the value of the plants would be $64,000, nowhere near the ridiculous $240,000 claimed by the mathematically inept law enforce officers. Taking a step even closer to reality, those 80 plants at the time of the bust probably only weighed a few pounds, wet, and had almost zero "street value." Absolutely ridiculous value claims by the police, off by at least an order of magnitude. Reminds me of Vietnam body count inflation.
