UpLift, Inc., which is located in what was once Morven Primary School, recently opened its doors.

It's a haven for men, women and children who are without a safe living space and community atmosphere.

About 22 residents currently live in the former schoolhouse, which is being renovated in order to add another 20 beds to the complex.

Residents say the family setting and support network is what sets UpLift apart from other shelters.

"We try to get people to see their self worth, to better themselves; to find goals, to set goals," said Michael Taylor, a resident and staff member of the home.

To make any kind of donation to UpLift so it can expand its services and reach more people, please contact the shelter at 229-200-0161.

Their mailing address is as follows:

P.O. Box 343
Morven, GA 31638

So are they a non-profit or what? In the Valdosta paper, the director claimed that they had been open a year and served 300 people. Which is it, newly opened or open for a while? Do they have state or private funding?
