Press Release By Governor's Press Office:

Statement by Governor Charlie Crist Regarding Hanukkah
Which Begins at Sundown on Friday, December 11

"I want to extend my most heartfelt wishes as Florida's Jewish Community prepares to celebrate Hanukkah, also called ‘The Festival of Lights.’

“The miracle of the oil in the Hanukkah story is one that transcends faiths and inspires a universal message of hope and courage, even in the midst of adversity. For eight days, Jewish Floridians light the menorah, a symbol of perseverance and determination, to honor and commemorate the sacrifices of their Jewish ancestors.

“Even during this joyous time of year, we must remain mindful of the challenges facing the free world and keep those who suffer from religious persecution in our thoughts and prayers. The amazing Hanukkah story of survival gives all of us hope in the face of great odds and danger. Carole and I pray that each of us can use this opportunity to reflect and re-commit ourselves to continued progress in our community, our state and our nation.”
