Authorities make a bust that they say takes more than $20,000 in cocaine and cash off the streets of Perry.

Two men are now behind bars.

Matthew Maxwell was arrested for resisting arrest; but the Taylor County Drug Task Force went to 302 West Spring Place to arrest someone else.

They had a search warrant for Maxwell's brother, 36-year-old Pallis Weaver.

CAPT Jamie Cruse with the Perry Police Department said, "If you were to describe him, he would be a mid-to-upper level dealer."

Perry resident Holly Colson said, "I'm very proud of them. I'm glad to know that even though we are a small community, that our police are doing their job and that they can arrest some of these bigger dealers out there."

Perry Police say when authorities arrived around 7:00 Monday night...Weaver ran in nearby woods but say after a short foot chase, authorities arrested him with the help of a police K-9.

CAPT Cruse said, "The street value of the drugs that we found would be approximately $10,000. We discovered $10,000 in cash and $5,000 of that was on him at the time."

Police say Weaver had more than 100 grams of cocaine, that he was in the process of cooking when he was busted.

"We interrupted his cook." Said CAPT Cruse.

That same night, another search warrant was executed at 1004 Richard Bell Avenue, where police say they found 17 bags of cocaine and about $700 in cash.

Forty-six year-old Cecil Gant was arrested inside the home.

Perry resident Nancy Smith said, "I think anything that we can do to help our community be safer, should be done."

Weaver is charged with trafficking cocaine and manufacturing crack cocaine.

Gant is charged with the sell of cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to sell and possession of ammunition by a felon.

Authorities say a patrol officer received information that they were able to pass along to the task force.

After about a month, Perry Police and Taylor County deputies were able to work together to make the arrests.

I've read all the postings for this story, and we've went from drugs dealers to the president, and the nerve of someone to say that they need to send all blacks back to africa, what's up with that. The main issue here is that pallis, his brother and cecil got caught. Ok! These are grown men and they knew the outcome if they got caught, lock down! Of course we don't want our son, our baby daddies in jail, but if they choose this life style that's they're choice. We're not the only small rural county that has a drug problems. I don't think that the county's law enforcement is doing their job tothe best of their ability, they choose who they want to get. We all know that Perry is a racism town and that the law doesn't apply to everyone. I feel sorry for this community and these black men, pallis missing his son's birth and cecil has a baby on the way also. Hopefully the judge won't be too harsh and come in having a good day. May the Lord continue to watch over them
