LEON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE:
In 2009 the Leon County Sheriff’s Office investigated five homicides, all which were cleared by arrest, or as in the death investigation of Timothy J. Cobb, the person involved has been identified and the case is under review. The following is a summary of each homicide and the suspects that have been arrested. In 2008 the Leon County Sheriff’s Office investigated six homicides, all of which have been cleared by arrest. This summary is only the homicide investigations conducted by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Larry Campbell said “After 48 years in law enforcement many family and friends of a murder victim have told me of the devastation they feel when a loved one is taken from them by a senseless act of violence. While solving these crimes does not restore their loved ones to them, it is my hope that it brings them justice. Just as important is that the citizens of Leon County have confidence that the Leon County Sheriff’s Office is here to serve them everyday, prevent crime when possible, and hold criminals accountable for their crimes”.

Victim: Steven Zettle (52yoa)
Suspect: Barton Allen Johnson DOB: 05/25/1960
Case Status: Solved
Location: 6100 block of Blountstown Highway (County)
Summary:
On March 12, 2009, Leon County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a wooded area behind a church located in the 6100 block of Blountstown Highway to investigate the report of the death of Steven Zettle. Zettle’s body was located on a dirt roadway and Violent Crimes detectives determined the death was a homicide. The next day Violent Crimes detectives arrested Barton Allen Johnson, charging him with the murder of Zettle and (9) nine additional felony crimes.

Christopher Harvey DOB: 01/10/1985 (Accessory after the Fact/Tampering with Evidence)
Case Status: Arrest Made/Investigation on-going
Location: 811 Lake Bradford Road (City)
Summary:
On March 29, 2009, at 4:20a.m., a Leon County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol in the area of Airport Drive and Epps Street heard the sound of gunshots in the area of Lake Bradford Road. As Deputies checked the area a large panicked crowd of approximately 150 people was fleeing the parking lot of the McDonalds/Circle K located at 811 Lake Bradford. Curtis Brown had been shot and was deceased. Six (6) other subjects had also been shot but their wounds were not life threatening. Violent Crimes Detectives determined this crime was related to gang violence and that Brown was an uninvolved bystander. Three (3) suspects were arrested and charged with the Felony Murder of Brown and a fourth suspect was charged with tampering with evidence. This investigation is on-going and it is possible that other suspects may have been involved.

Location: 4921 Outlook Court (County)
Summary:
On May 19, 2009, Leon County Sheriff's Deputies were called to 4921 Outlook Court in reference to checking on the welfare of Robert Parkes. Parkes had not shown up for work and his co-workers had become concerned. Upon arrival at the residence, Sheriff's Deputies found Parkes had been murdered. During the course of the investigation, Detectives obtained information that Tyreese Faust, Amos Jenkins, Alexandria Ford and Latorya Pate were responsible for Parkes’ murder. Ford and Pate had been introduced to Robert Parkes, at his residence, on Saturday night May 16, 2009. The following night, Sunday May 17, 2009, Faust, Jenkins, Ford and Pate conspired to conduct a home invasion robbery of Parkes. When Ford and Pate arrived at Parkes’ residence they were allowed in by the victim. As Ford and Pate were inside the residence with Parkes, they communicated with Faust and Jenkins, via text messages. Ford and Pate provided information to Faust and Jenkins as to Parkes’ movements and location inside the residence. Ford and Pate also received instructions to move Parkes to another location in the residence to provide an advantage during the robbery. Once Ford and Pate had moved Parkes to the instructed location, Faust entered the residence armed with a rifle. Faust then shot and killed Parkes as he tried to flee to a bedroom.

Victim: Anthony Nathan (44yoa)
Suspect: Lemon Norris Lane DOB: 10/23/1976
Case Status: Solved
Location: 2775 Cathedral Drive lot 290 (County)
Summary:
On August 30, 2009, at approximately 9:20p.m., Leon County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to 2775 Cathedral Drive lot 290 in reference to reports that Anthony Nathan had been shot by Lemon Lane. Nathan and Lane had been involved in a heated altercation at a gathering in Boston, Georgia earlier in the day. The altercation continued into Leon County when Lane drove to Nathan’s residence and shot him as he stood outside. Lane fled the scene and was subsequently arrested by a Florida Wildlife Commission Officer.

Identified Subject: Anthony Mack DOB: 07/05/1969
Case Status: This case is under review, no arrest has been made.
Location: 9205 Miccosukee Road (County)
Summary:
On October 24, 2009, at 7:40a.m., Leon County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to 9205 Miccosukee Road in reference to Timothy J. Cobb who had been stabbed and later died. An investigation revealed that Cobb was the former boyfriend of Kathryn Hall who was inside the residence with Anthony Mack. Cobb was upset that Mack was at the residence and demanded to be let inside. Fearing violence would occur, Hall and Mack refused to allow Cobb inside the residence. Cobb then forced open the locked back door of the residence, entered and attacked Mack. During the violent attack, Mack armed himself with a kitchen knife and stabbed Cobb several times. No criminal charges have been filed; however, when this investigation is completed, it will be forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office for review.
None of the suspects in any of these shootings have gone to trial yet.
