Summer Camp Turnout

The summer session is in full swing for area students. While some kids are taking the break away from campus, others are attending campus camps free of charge.

The camps are paid for by a 21st century community learning grant. All parents need to do is sign their child up!

These student song birds really do have something to sing about. Instead of sitting at home this summer they're taking on a new talent.

Terrance McNeil, a Horizons Camp volunteer, says, "So many kids that love music, thought this was a good way to connect with them, mentor with them. Take a positive part in their lives; give them constructive activity for the summer."

These day campers are enrolled in Belle Vue Middle School's summer camp and all the kids agree it beats staying home! Besides a vast variety of activities to choose from the camp provides a safe haven for kids. The best part of all, this summer supervision is free of charge. The tab is picked up by a 21st century grant. That includes transportation to the camp and lunch.

The schools offering the free camps include Belle Vue Middle School, Bond, Wesson, Riley, Brevard, Oak Ridge, Pineview and Sabal Palm Elementary Schools, Nimms Middle School, Godby High School and Gretchen Everhart.

Students must live in the district of the camp they want to attend. School officials are looking to add more schools to the list for the upcoming school year.
