The Director of Emergency Management says that's because the current system contract will expire then.
Tuesday night the board authorized the Director of Emergency Management to go ahead and find a new system.
The director says while the current system is up to date, it's good to change systems because the technology is changing constantly
“The technology regarding 911 has changed so dramatically in the last decade you not only have wireless but you also have the coming technology like the voice over and the internet protocol,” Richard Smith explains.
"We have people who bid against each other for those types of services and different people are willing to provide a higher level of so why not go with that?” comments Leon County EMS Chief Dan Moynihan.
The agencies affected by the new system will be the Sheriff's Office, Division of Emergency Management, TPD, FSU and FAMU Police and Capitol Police.
