A postal carrier accused of stealing gift cards out of the mail was sentenced in federal court today.

April Taylor plead guilty to three counts of mail theft and today was sentenced to three years probation and six months of house arrest.

The now-fired mail carrier from Sopchoppy was indicted for stealing three gift cards from mail on her route.

"She apologized to the court for the ... what she's caused other people and she's lost her job which is tough in these economic times. She's struggling," said Taylor's attorney, William Clark.

Taylor had no comment as she left the federal courthouse this morning.

The judge ordered her to pay restitution, undergo drug counseling and continue working toward her G-E-D.

just because you do not have a H.S. diploma or G.E.D. does not make you a bad person or a thief. have known carriers who had an education and still have stolen. As for me going on 27 years as a career employee with either a H.S. diploma or g.e.d and have never stolen anything from the Postal Service , very thankful have a good paying job.

You have to be 18 years old. As far as education goes you do not have to own a high school dipolma or a GED. We have not asked for references since I came to work in 1994. Think about it why would you check a reference that the applicant provided anyway. They surely wouldn't give you a name of someone they knew might show them in a negative abeit true light. Criminal records are checked in counties where you have worked or lived in the last five years and that really leaves a lot of real estate for you to commit a crime and not have it reported on our economical search engines that we can "afford". There are quite a few "losers" who get in and quite a few who were already there. Just a reflection of the general population.
