Kindergartners at Gilchrist Elementary school handed over their nap mats they no longer use to Hope to Haiti. The organization will be taking the donations to the island country on Saturday. Many of the earthquake victims who've been sleeping on the cement or rubble now have something a little softer. The students say they're happy to help.

"It makes them feel happy and it helps their lives be better," said 6 year-old Kiley Basik.

"These mats I thought were useful. It's low hanging fruit. People have already bought them so as far as the economy goes it's paid for and probably not going to be used again," said Lt. Col. Kevin Basik, who's a parent volunteer.

The Leon County School district has been working with the Red Cross to make monetary donations as well. The district is encouraging individual schools to work within their community's to help with the relief efforts.
