Leon County Judge Jim Shelfer took oath as the 44th judge of the second judicial circuit Friday afternoon.
It was a packed house for the popular Shelfer's investiture
Those who know him best, describe him as a kind, respectful man who has a genuine concern for everyone he encounters.
Many say this makes him a smart choice for the recent opening as circuit judge.
"I discovered what I really what I wanted to do with the second half of my professional life was public service and I wanted a seat on the bench of this circuit," says Jim Shelfer, recently appointed as 2nd Judicial Circuit Judge.
His wife, sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren were present when his former partners gave him his robe.
Shelfer practiced law privately for 27 years before being appointed as a Leon county Judge in 2001.
