New President of Florida Association of Counties From Leon County

Cliff Thaell has been a public servant to the people of Leon County for the last 10 years.

It was 1994 when he won his at large county seat and now, a decade later he's won another election.

Martin Green, Thaell's commission aide, said, "Cliff Thaell is very dynamic and intelligent. He cares about people and FAC is going to find him to be very active. He's going to represent them well."

On June 24, Cliff Thaell will become the third Leon County commissioner to be sworn in as the president for the Florida association of counties.

Cliff Thaell, Leon County Commissioner, said, "I think it's an honor to Leon County, and its citizens. It's certainly an honor for me. It's an honor and privilege to serve as president."

Thaell said to be elected this year is even more of a privilege as FAC turns 75 years old and while he may not hit all 66 counties outside of Leon, "I'm going to working very hard to find areas of common ground between counties and cities so we can go to the Legislature as one voice speaking about local tax payers needs. I think as we find that common ground we can be a more unified and more powerful voice across the state.”

Thaell's commission aide said this will be an interesting year, busier but well worth it.

The FAC presidential term lasts one year.

Thaell said another important issue he'll take before state lawmakers is the mental health needs of Floridians.
