It's not quite time to start picking the grapes off the vine.

But today many people in our community came out to learn a little bit about pruning a vineyard.

The FAMU center for Viticulture Science and Small Fruit Research held a Vineyard Pruning Workshop.

The workshop focused on the proper way to prune vines to maximize growth for the season as well as other skills.

"The idea behind the workshop is to provide information on how to train young muscadine vines, as well as mature muscadine vines, and in some cases where they just let go, how to prune neglected vines," said Alex Bolquez.

Those who came out were given an introductory PowerPoint on the basics of growing a vineyard, and then were taken outside for a more hands-on demonstration.

Registration was free.

FAMU plans to hold more workshops like this one throughout the year.

It would have been nice to have heard about this BEFORE the event instead of after....
