Saltwater Classic

For three days hundreds flocked to the 16th Annual Saltwater Classic fishing tournament.

Rick Mills has brought hot sellers to this year’s Saltwater Classic. With tongs in hand the hot dog chef hopes to reel in some extra cash from visiting fishermen.

Rick Mills, a Hot Diggity Dawgs chef, said, "We got smoked sausages and some of the best peanuts you ever put in your mouth."

Whether it's tasty treats or must have equipment, Carrabelle businesses are banking on the fact these out-of-towners are ready to anti-up for their stay.

Chris Lyons, tournament chairman, commented on the economic effects, "Buying groceries, dinner gas, and bait so we think it's important to the economic impact it brings."

For Bobby Turner and Captain Mullette, hundreds of sport fishermen means hundreds of wives and even more kids, many of which need river cruises to keep them occupied.

Turner and Mullette said, "The men are out fishing and I take the wives and children on the boat, we have a good time."

A good time is what the Saltwater Classic is all about, and in the end many say it doesn't matter the price you pay or even how much you reel in, but the memories you share along the way. Organizers say this year's Saltwater Classic doubled its online registrations and competitor numbers were up by 20 percent.
