If diamonds are a girl's best friend, then shoes are her confidante. Many women see shoes as the best part of their wardrobe. After all, they're chic, they complete any outfit and they always fit.
One style turning heads this season is the black patent peep-toe pump from Cole Haan. It has a high heel with a slight platform and Nike Air Technology.
Kathy Murphy, owner of Kathy's in Thomasville, Georgia says, "If you have been leery about wearing pumps with higher heels because of the lack of comfort, you need to try this pump. The technology of the sole and the small platform really is an amazing addition."
Also in this year is a high white patent wedge with touches of metallic gold by Sofft. This shoe is reminiscent of the early 1970's, as an accent to a sun dress or to add a nautical look with a pair of jeans or dress pants.
Born also has a wedge that made the list this season; however, this one has a higher platform and lots of fun colors added to the neutral tan straps.
"This has the ankle strap which is not only fashionable but very functional. It adds a bit of security when walking," said Murphy. "Neutrals are very important this spring and the bright touches of color make them more fun."
If you're looking for a more casual shoe, look no further than the sandal. The gladiator-style Marinelli is strappy with neutral tones and a pop of color with turquoise and amber stones. Another variation on the gladiator-style sandal is highlighted with pewter beading and a removable ankle strap.
In addition to the patent peep-toe, Cole Haan has a stylish city sandal that's sure to wow. The neutral multi-colored gem has a high heel with the Nike air technology built in the sole for added comfort.
"This shoe," said Murphy, "Can work with any color and absolutely gives you that "long leggy look"."
She also says the shoe styles of today are definitely reminiscent of the late 1950's through the early 1980's.
"I have been in the business long enough to see the styles making a come back. The differences are the comfort that has been added to the styles," said Murphy.
She said designers have found that shoes need to be both comfortable and fashionable, otherwise, women will not buy them. Gone are the days of beauty is pain.
Another difference in the shoe trends today, said Murphy, is that women can wear the same stunning shoes to work and to play.
"The functionality of the fashion shoes is so much greater which makes investing in a great pair of shoes, or 2 or 3, easier to justify."
