Prosecutors are calling more witnesses today in The trial of a Tallahassee man accused of murdering his wife.

A forensics expert was one of the witnesses this morning in the trial of Daniel Tappen.

Tappen listened Tuesday as the state claimed he strangled his wife with a belt in their home back in September of 2008.

The defense told the jury it wasn't murder and that his wife Kimberly committed suicide by asphyxiating herself with the belt.

Among the witnesses to be questioned is Tappen's stepdaughter who was one of the last people to see Kimberly before she died.

Did Daniel Tappen kill his wife in their home the night of September 28th, 2008 or did she commit suicide? That's what the jury will have to decide later this week.

The state claims Tappen's calm demeanor that night and inconsistent stories suggest he's guilty. "The details that this defendant tells constantly change, constantly. Every story he tells is different," said the prosecutor.

"He looked excited, like something major had just happened. He had the excitement about him, his eyes were darting back and forth. They had a glassy look to them," explained Tallahassee Police Officer Jeff Caplan.

The first officer on scene stepped off the stand and in front of a makeshift closet to show the jury how Tappen claimed to have found his wife that night.

"He said she hung herself. You know she came in she was like this, he made a motion with his hand with a belt around her neck like this. And then she fell and was dead," said Caplan.

The defense didn't waste anytime bringing up his wife's history of depression and drug use. Earlier in 2008 Tappen's wife was hospitalized for taking too many pills.

"During that March event where police came to the house and they took her to the hospital she acknowledged that she had been involved in an extramarital affair. That she wanted to take her own life," explained the defense attorney.
