On July 2, Chief Justice Barbara Pariente made history as she was sworn into the highest judicial seat for the state, making her the second woman to take the oath.
It was only fitting that the first woman, Rosemary Barkett, should do the honors.
Judge Rosemary Barkett says, "She's amazing and I can't think of anyone else more prepared for the job."
Joshua Pariente Koehler, Chief Justice and Pariente's son, says, "I am very proud of her. She's inspirational."
Many agree within the last year Pariente has won the fight against breast cancer.
Chief Justice Barbara Pariente of the Florida Supreme Court says, "Am I a fighter? I do believe in the good fight."
While going through chemotherapy she made a decision and took her seat by her fellow justices without her wig. The people's reaction was one of pure support.
Mother, wife, friend, colleague and the newest chief justice says she's ready for this latest challenge in her life.
Pariente says some goals for her two-year term include improving family courts, improving technology and teaching the public more about the court system.
