Police sirens were wailing in Tallahassee all day Thursday because of a gunpoint robbery and chase Thursday afternoon and a murder in the morning that sounds like a scene out of a Hollywood movie.
It happened in broad daylight on South Adams Street.
Tallahassee police say a young man was shot and then pushed out of a moving vehicle into the street.
Stewart Clendinen, TPD Spokesman, says, "The victim rolled out and rolled several feet and then witnesses stopped to give aid and they thought it was a crash."
The driver of the van stopped, thinking perhaps the man had been hit by a car, but he would soon discover the man had been shot at least once.
The shooting victim is 21-year-old Carlos Chaires of Midway. He died on the operating table Thursday afternoon. Court records show he was out on bond and awaiting trial on cocaine possession charges when he was killed.
Police are now looking for a white van that sped away from the scene headed south.
This is the best description witnesses could provide: it is a white older model van in poor condition. They have no tag information, but say the van had small tail lights.
If you have seen the van or saw anything as you drove along Adams Street Thursday, you're asked to call Tallahassee Police at 891-4200.
This is the fourth murder in Tallahassee in just five weeks. So far there have been no arrests in any of them.
