The Lowndes County Board of Education will look to cut 8-10% of the system's 1,400 positions.

$11 million have been removed from the budget and the board is looking for ways to cope.

The superintendent Dr. Steve Smith said all departments are on the chopping block and more calendar changes are still a possibility.

"It's a real difficult task when you're making decisions that adversely impact the lives of people who you know and that you care deeply for," said Smith.

The board will review the list of possibly 140 personnel cuts in May.

Leave the teachers, when I was in school we didn't have all these specialized coaching positions - make some of the coaches doubleup. We has 1 coach for basketball - boys and girls, and he also coached track. Helped out on the football team also.

I say let the teachers aids go and let the teachers teach. Oh they are called paralegals now. This would save the system a lot of money.
