Google recently announced that it will build an ultra-high-speed broadband network in one or more trial locations in the US and Tallahassee has officially been approved to apply by City Commissioners.

The network will provide data at 1-gigabit per second which is 100-times faster than most broadband networks.

'Using today's application, that's not going to mean much, but the issue is what are we going to be able to do 3 to 5 years from now. Right now, it's a one way stream, we download, we download, we download. We don't even know what we'll be able to do in the next couple of years," says City of Tallahassee Commissioner Gil Ziffer.

Tallahassee has until March 26th to submit their application, but Ziffer says they will hold a big send off meeting for the application on March 25th at the Challenger Learning Center.

As of right now the time hasn't been set.
