At around 10:30 p.m, Valdosta State Police say a Chevy Trailblazer hit Asia Irick on Centennial Drive.

The street is patrolled by university police.

But Sustella Avenue, the street that leads to it, is watched by both city and campus patrol.

Irick was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center, and then later discharged.

No charges have been issued yet against the driver, whose last name is Johnson, since the incident is still under investigation.

Something needs to be done about the students darting out in traffic (not saying that's what happened in this case). I've actually had to sit and wait for 2 students standing in the middle of the road at an intersection talking during the heaviest traffic of the day. Some of these students have not a care in the world while the rest of us have jobs and responsibilites.VSU students wake up and smell the coffee!

Was it an out of control Toyota?

I have to drive in the area of VSU often and it is crazy how the students just walk out into traffic all the time. The fist class all students should be required to take is Crossing the Street 101! They don't even seem to know what the crosswalk area is all about.
