A petition we told you about last month for full recycling in Suwannee County is set to go before county commissioners.

Flyers are being handed out at Suwannee County refuse collection sites explaining that "due to the down-turn in the market for recyclable materials, the county is only accepting aluminum and steel cans at this time."

The Suwannee High School Environmental Club discovered last month that the county wasn't recycling everything, and started a petition.

Suwannee County resident James Coan said, "Considering the economy and the rest of that, they should be recycling everything. We don't have the money to spend on a new dump or to make new bottles. We should always recycle all our resources."

The club will present the petition at next Tuesday night's commission meeting.

Officials say they are aggressively seeking other markets and hope to have the full recycling program back going soon.
