"I know one doggone thing, he was operating that bus too doggone fast."

Betty Smith says minutes before the bus driver Tim Kelly was involved in the crash, he ran her off the road into this church parking lot.
She says he was barreling down Highway 268, tailgating her car.

"When I looked up, this school bus was coming. I mean this school bus was coming.

Just minutes later, Smith watched as the bus veered off the road and smashed into the treeline.

She grabbed her cell phone, called 9-1-1 and ran to help the students evacuate the mangled bus.

"I holler to the kids to get off the bus, because I was scared it was going to explode. And one of the little children they were screaming, we can't get out. I said kick the window out."

Smith remembers finding De'Sherrime Murray's limp body after she was ejected through the front window.

"So I lent down to her and I got a pulse and then I just started talking to her, I just started talking to her. I don't know what I said. And then she [puffs of breaths] but still no movement. You could just tell she was barely breathing, like that might have been her last breath."

Smith says the images of mangled steel. debris and blood will stick with her forever.

"That is the worst thing I have ever seen and I don't want to see anything like that no more."

WHETHER THE STORY POSTED BY WCTV WAS TOO GRAPHIC IS NOT THE ISSUE, THE ISSUE FOR ME IS THE COMMUNITIES' RESPONSE. WHY ARE YOU GUYS ARGUING WITH EACH OTHER ABOUT HOW IT HAPPENED AND WHO SAW WHAT? MY MOTHER HAS ALWAYS SAID "BELIEVE NONE OF WHAT YOU HEAR AND HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE". MOST OF THE INFORMATION BEING REPORTED IS SECOND-HAND INFORMATION. LET US PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE TRY AND SHOW A LITTLE DIGNITY FOR OURSELVES AND RESPECT FOR ALL OF THE FAMILIES INVOLVED. ACCIDENTS ARE JUST THAT "ACCIDENTS", PLEASE HOLD OFF ON PASSING JUDGEMENT UNTIL WE HEAR MORE DETAILS. FINALLY, LET'S SHOW OTHERS THAT PEOPLE IN GADSDEN COUNTY KNOW HOW TO PULL TOGETHER IN A TIME OF TRAGEDY, INSTEAD OF RIPPING EACH OTHER APART.

To Anthony: No he-- she wasn't. One of the students that was riding the bus said she wasn't no where in sight. Betty don't do nonthing but lie. Take it from someone that knows her personnally.

They are looking for Betty Smith because she is the key witness in the whole ordeal besides the kids on the bus!
