Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue has ordered flags at state buildings to be lowered to half staff in memory of former Gov. George Busbee.
Busbee's son Jeff says the former democratic governor collapsed Friday afternoon of an apparent heart attack.
Busbee was governor from 1975 to 1983 the first in state history to serve two consecutive four year terms. Busbee was born in Dooly County in August 1927.
After serving in the navy, he earned a law degree from the University of Georgia and practiced law in Albany where he won a seat in the Legislature.
