Authorities in both Thomas and Grady Counties need your help in the investigation of a string of convenient store burglaries. Investigators believe the break-ins may be related.
Surveillance video captured masked, would-be burglars around 3:00 a.m. Sunday as they cased out a Citgo gas station off Highway 122, and after about seven minutes of lurking outside the store, LT Tim Watkins, investigator in Thomas County, says, "They cut the power to the building, which did not activate the alarm."
Investigators say then they used an object to break the glass of the front door and gain entry getting away with about $3,000.
Tim Watkins adds, "They took the safe out of the store. They used a chair located in the office to roll the safe out to the highway where they had a vehicle parked."
This crime is the latest in a recent string of break-ins in Thomas County. Watkins says those thieves may be involved in three similar convenient store burglaries last week in Grady County.
Steve Clark, investigator in Grady County, says, "A non-specific amount of rolled coins were taken. They were in cigar boxes on top of a safe inside the store. A brick concrete was found outside the store."
Watkins says there are possibly five males suspected in the crimes in Thomas County. Investigators hope the video will lead to tips from the community, putting authorities on the trail of these unidentified bandits.
The owner of the stores that were burglarized in both Thomas and Grady Counties declined to comment. The break-ins are still being investigated.
